Revlon Discontinued Lipsticks Still Exists?

Revlon discontinued lipsticks

After over 90 years of producing cosmetics for people all around the world, Revlon has filed for bankruptcy in the US. Revlon was one of the first cosmetic businesses to use supermodels in marketing. This was done at the height of its fame as the “queen of lipstick” and other cosmetic products. Yet, because of supply chain delays, rising expenses, and the crowded influencer market, it was saddled with a mountain of debt.

Revlon has battled to maintain its top rank in a market where a select few companies have a monopoly on popular brands. Is the iconic brand truly going away? Not right now. Let us view this brand in detail in this article.

An evaluation of the beauty brand

For most of the past century, Revlon has been a mainstay in the beauty section. During the Great Depression in New York City in 1932, brothers Charles and Joseph Revson and chemist Charles Lachman established it for the first time.

Nail polish was Revlon’s first product to hit the market. By 1937, it was available in pharmacies and department stores. Six years later, Revlon was a multimillion-dollar company. Shortly after, they expanded their collection to include lipsticks and cosmetics.

By the 1960s, Revlon was one of the leading lipstick manufacturers in the US. In 1970, Naomi Sims was the first Black model to appear in a campaign for the brand. It had taken significant steps by the 1980s to include well-known and up-and-coming models.

Revlon was slow to adopt the more subdued, muted makeup and vintage beauty trends that took over in the 1990s. It was even more challenging to keep up with the fast-rising beauty influencers like Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty and Kylie Jenner’s popular lip kits.

The business hasn’t been able to avoid controversy over cruelty-free testing over the years. In spite of Revlon’s repeated denials, PETA continues to claim on its website that goods are tested on animals.

Will Revlon manage to survive?

Revlon is losing market share to powerful competitors like Procter & Gamble. It also needed to catch up to growing social media trends. Up-and-coming cosmetic brands exceeded it. This includes Kylie Jenner and other celebrities who excelled online.

When more and more individuals were forced to wear masks due to the pandemic, and fewer people were wearing lipstick. As a result, Revlon also suffered. In actuality, 44% of women purchased lipstick for themselves in April 2020, but that number fell to 30% in 2021.

Additionally, people have started buying makeup online. According to industry professionals, it puts pressure on legacy brands in a competitive online market.

With the pandemic, Revlon’s issues grew worse as sales of lipstick fell 21% in 2020. They improved in the company’s 2022 reporting year, although they are still $2.4 billion (£1.9 billion) or more below pre-pandemic levels annually.

Revlon has finally met its demise as a result of the current global supply chain disruptions that have affected hundreds of worldwide businesses.

What happened to Revlon?

The cosmetics business has submitted a “Chapter 11 Bankruptcy” petition on June 16, 2022. In essence, that is a form of bankruptcy practiced in the US. The debt-ridden corporation must devise a strategy for restructuring itself. By doing this, Revlon aims to get $575 million in funding from its current creditors. Thus, it enables them to carry on with operations, at least temporarily. Yet, this will only take place once the court gives its consent.

The filing, according to Revlon CEO Debra Perelman, “offers customers the iconic product we supplied for decades while providing a clearer path for future growth.”

Discontinued Revlon Lipsticks

When cosmetics businesses no longer offer popular lipsticks, it can be very depressing. Customers are, therefore, coming up with inventive ways to store them away or put them back on the shelf.

Customers often ask the question of why well-liked products are discontinued in the first place. After all, the beauty industry is a business, and the majority of firms are more focused on developing newsworthy new items. The companies are more focused on expanding their consumer base.

Revlon has discontinued some of its lipstick shades. The reason has yet to be discovered. According to the Love Beauty Outlet website, the discontinued lipsticks are listed below:

  • Revlon Kiss Cushion Lip Tint Stain, 210 Pretty Kiss
  • Revlon Kiss Cushion Lip Tint Stain, 280 Chocolate Pop
  • Revlon Kiss Cushion Lip Tint Stain, 290 Extra Violet
  • Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick, 225 Rosewine (Limited Edition Case)
  • Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick, 445 Teak Rose
  • Revlon Super Lustrous Matte Lipstick, 049 Rise Up Rose
  • Revlon Super Lustrous Matte Lipstick, 051 Red Rules the World

What happened to Revlon in 2023?

Revlon may be on its way to emerging from bankruptcy by April 2023 after being bought by its lenders in 2022. The company claimed so. Could this move provide the ancient beauty brand with a much-needed breath of fresh air, or will the issues remain?

It is reasonable to assume that long-standing cosmetics company Revlon faced its fair share of difficulties in 2022. This was due to sluggish sales, accounting mistakes, and its filing for bankruptcy the previous year.

A shocking development occurred in December when the troubled beauty company was totally bought out by its lenders. Longtime owner Ron Perelman was fired as a result, and all the company’s shareholders were wiped out.

Thus, these could be one of the most crucial opportunities the company needs to overhaul and revive itself following a US bankruptcy court’s approval of a US$1.4 billion loan.

The catch is that in order to exit bankruptcy, Revlon must come up with a restructuring plan by January 19, 2023, and say that it will repay the loan by April of 2023.
